Saxony's path to solar energy: Major projects and innovations in focus

Saxony is increasingly becoming a major player in the field of renewable energies. Through impressive solar projects and innovative technologies, the state is making a significant contribution to the energy transition.

Witznitz Energy Park: Germany's largest solar park

The Witznitz Energy Park was built south of Leipzig. With a peak output of approximately 650 megawatts, it is currently Germany's largest solar park. Approximately 1.1 million solar modules were installed on an area of approximately 500 hectares, a former open-cast lignite mine. This solar park can theoretically supply approximately 200,000 four-person households with electricity and marks a significant step in Saxony's energy balance.

Agri-photovoltaics in the Neisse floodplain: Dual use of land

Eastern Germany's first large-scale commercial agri-photovoltaic plant is being built in the municipality of Neißeaue in the Görlitz district. This innovative project combines agricultural use with solar power generation by installing bifacial, vertically mounted modules. This technology enables the efficient dual use of agricultural land while simultaneously contributing to sustainable energy production.

Photovoltaic system in Zeithain: Strengthening local energy supply

In Zeithain, Meißen district, a photovoltaic system with a nominal capacity of approximately 1.17 megawatts was commissioned in the summer of 2023. On an area of 1.5 hectares, 2,168 solar modules generate green electricity that can theoretically supply approximately 400 households. This project underscores the importance of local energy generation for regional security of supply.

RWE project in Schönau: Expansion of solar energy

RWE plans to build a 20-megawatt photovoltaic plant in Schönau, near Wildenfels. Around 36,000 bifacial modules will be installed on a 19-hectare site, producing approximately 21 million kilowatt hours of green electricity annually. This project demonstrates the commitment of major energy companies to the expansion of renewable energies in Saxony.
